FOTAS News

It was a hot sunny day in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The setting was nice for a Tobago Family Day. DJ Papa Brown/Bethel drive four hours to provide entertainment; a young man who say he from Tobago but he don't know anybody there heard on the radio that we needed some traditional kites and made five for the occasion. But like all prodigals we welcome him in the family. Dwight/Bethel walk with about 20 yards of old bedding for kite tail. (Doh ask me wey he get dat from)

So anyway, caterers Maureen/Pembroke, sisters Lauralyn and Miriam Dennis/Patience Hill and Valerie Solomon/Patience Hill and Leslie (wife of Jason Nelson/Carnbee) have the food service under control with roast bake, buljol, smoke herring and all the usual Tobago fare. Everthing running smoothly. We off to a great start.

Mothers moral competition and Father/son marble-pitching contest in full swing.... Hear Maureen, "buh allyuh, where is de crab, de dumpling here?" Lunch time approaching and crab race in progress. We looking for crab, crab looking for venue, patrons anxious too bad. One minute we hear the crab on its way, next minute the crab gone off course. Like the crab jockey,(Eulda/Mt. St. George) don't know you have to steer de crab in the direction you want it to go... a little to the left, ah little to the right.

This time Irwin/Hope Village running back and forth trying to get a kite up in the air for the children. All yuh ever see Irwin run, look back and look up at the same time. Well boy, huh. You had to be there.

Ay, ay, finally we spot the crab coming in to the home stretch and picking up pace as it gets closer. The jockey looking like she know what she was doing all along, rest down the big iron pot in style and step back to make sure it settle down. This time if you see how the crab and dumpling line long....

Ah not sure about the Mt. St. George crab jockey this year, nah. We puting out a call for a real crab jockey so if you in town next year and you looking for a crab jockey work....call us for an audition.
